Carolyn Smith, MSW, LCSW
I'm Carolyn Smith and I've been practicing in this field since 2001 and the founder of Main Line Therapy since 2007. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Psychology and Communication Studies from Bloomsburg University, as well as my Master of Arts in Social Work from Monmouth University. Practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since 2003, and being an active member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) since 2001, I have had many learning opportunities that have not only helped me professionally, but personally as well. I also, practice in accordance with the National Social Workers Code of Ethics.
My clinical style is focused on a variety of approaches to teach the client about themselves. This includes an awareness of thoughts and behaviors that may be negatively affecting their lives, healthy ways to release trapped or suppressed emotions, and communicating assertive what their wants are in a way that will most likely generate positive results. As we become more mindful of emotions and are able to make sense of them, we tend to be less emotionally reactive and more disciplined in our thinking, which leads to stronger confidence and an acceptance for who we are. As this self awareness continues to grow, our motivation tends to grow with it. I am a true believer in mindfulness, whether that is through meditation or the simple act of being present in our lives throughout the day, because when our minds are calm we have the ability to see things much clearer. There is a science behind our emotions and as we learn and apply it to our lives, it changes the way the world looks.
Although there are some general guidelines that I tend to follow in my practice, each treatment plan is individualized and created special for each client addressing their specific goals and needs. This also takes into account the client's history, family history, psychosocial stressors, lifestyle demands and personality characteristics, as well as what you, the client is most motivated to change.
Please take notice of my super sweetie, golden doodle Maci, who often enjoys the benefits of therapy as well!
