What to expect
Each session, including the initial assessment, takes about an hour. During the first appointment, we will go through some paperwork for about ten minutes and then I'll gather some information about you and what brings you to therapy. I'll also take some time to discuss my style of therapy so you understand what I am doing and how that can help you. I provide educational handouts as well, in case you don't remember everything. And last but not least, we will go over your treatment plan and specialize it to accommodate what will work for you. You will also be give a copy of that treatment plan to take with you.
Each session we will review your stressors, what tools you have applied since the prior session and how they have affected you. A few examples of some things we may reflect on might be, attempting a shift in your thinking, becoming more aware of something that "heightened" you, releasing an emotion in a healthy way and not at someone directly, or saying, "Let me think about that", before committing to something. Depending on how these tools affect you, will most likely determine your motivation to continue with this change or not. The goal is to improve your baseline and that happens one step at a time!
